Michael has conducted strategic reviews in the produce, beef, lamb and grains industries for a range of clients including CITIC, Wesfarmers Landmark, GrainCorp and Waitrose. We take pride in our ability to provide clear and unambiguous recommendations based on rigorous analysis of the firm's capabilities and industry dynamics.
         
Business research
Our main areas of business research include:
 
Capability audits and evaluation - The factors that have formed the foundation for past success may not be - or are even unlikely to be - the springboard for success in the future. Capability audits provide lead indicators of performance and assist managers focus on the small number of factors that will really make the difference.
 
Customer commitment studies - One of the key challenges in business markets is to generate commitment - not just satisfaction - from customers (and suppliers). Working with Professor David Wilson we have developed robust methodology to assist clients measure and manage customer commitment.
Value chain analysis - Over the past 5 years we have developed a range of integrated diagnostic tools to support value chain diagnosis and evaluation studies. The tools include relationship, culture, learning and innovation audits.
Workshop facilitation
 
O'Keeffe and Associates assist, organise and facilitate strategic planning workshops at Board and senior management level. Our deep and first hand experience at all levels in the value chain ensures that we can assist clients prepare and conduct outstanding workshops.

In addition we collaborate with Professor Paul Steffens to conduct a marketing performance workshop that effectively taps into the accumulated skills of your people.

Executive Development
We maintain an active schedule of executive development engagements, including the preparation of specific case studies to integrate current thinking and real life strategies. We assist Professor David Wilson with his Strategic Relationship Management Program at the Australian Graduate School of Management. And we work closely with Professor John Morris on a range of programs in the food, wine, produce and agricultural industries.
Sessions include:
Corporate Strategy - An interactive and practical session on Corporate Strategy drawing on our active involvement in industry over the past 15 years. Developments over this period - and implications for competition policy - are woven into an easy-to-follow story. Real-life examples are drawn from the specific industry sector.
Value Chain anagement - Value chains are about growth, not just cost reductions. This session provides participants with a solid framework and practical checklists to evaluate, implement and monitor value chain strategies.
Information Management and e-Commerce - In most industries inventory is used as the buffer for poor information management, but in the fresh food industries there are a range of implications such as out-of-stocks, repackaging costs, discounted or distressed sales, shrinkage and non-routine purchases. This session addresses the opportunities for improved information management - within the firm and with trading partners - and the role of e-Commerce.
Strategic Business Relationships - Managing the boundaries of the firm is becoming increasingly critical. In this session we provide a framework and checklist for clarifying how close a relationship with a trading partner should be (should we partner?) and how to manage the relationship.
 
   
Capabilities and Competing - A practical tour of the capabilities perspective on competing. We integrate intangible assets and intellectual capital thinking into a management friendly process of evaluating and managing capabilities.
